Mississippi Statewide Independent Living Council Meetings

The MS SILC is seeking to fill their staff vacancy. Here is the Job Description.
The Mississippi Statewide Independent Living Council (MSSILC) was established in 1993 as a result of the Reauthorization of the Rehabilitation Act, Title VII, Part A, Section 704 - which states that "in order to be eligible for financial assistance under this title, each state shall stablish a Statewide Independent Living Council". In accordance with federal law, Mississippi's SILC members are appointed by the Governor after soliciting recommendations from representatives of organizations representing a broad range of individuals with disabilities. The composition of the SILC in Mississippi is as follows:
1) at least one director of a center for independent living - Christy Dunaway, Director, Living Independence For Everyone (LIFE) of Ms.
2) as ex officio non-voting - a representative from the designated state unit - Shelia Browning, MS Department of Rehabilitation Services.
3) representatives from other state agencies that provide services to individuals with disabilities - Janet Mann, Mississippi Division of Medicaid; Mary Meruvia, Choctaw VR and IL programs; Linda Hall, Independent Living for the Older Blind.
4) Additional members - the council may include: ... a) parents and gaurdians of individuals with disabilities - Mary Allsup, parent; b) advocates of and for individuals with disabilities - Jan Cloud, South Ms, consumer; Wood Brown, Central MS; Mark Marshall, North MS
SILC meetings are open to the public and meet regularly. Meetings for 2010 are scheduled as follows: May 13, 2010, MDRS State offices, Hwy 51, Madison, August 12, 2010, MDRS Field offices on Beasley Rd, Jackson, MS (click below for notice). Meetings are held at 12:30 pm at a location decided upon by the members.
