How Your Donation Will Be Used To Change A LIFE
LIFE’s primary funding source is the Rehabilitation Services Administration under the US Department of Education; these funds are restricted and to be used only for the provision of our four core services.
To continue, and expand, the provision of services to individuals with disabilities in Mississippi, LIFE purchased a state office building in Jackson several years ago that meets the needs of the disability community in terms of a location for training seminars, support meetings, events designed to promote community inclusion, car seat safety checks and more.
LIFE also manages several other grants and contracts that provide services to under-served or un-served populations within the disability community, such as children and youth with special health care needs and individuals currently institutionalized. Three of our grants require matching funds of unrestricted dollars. The programs that we match are: AmeriCorps Project LINC, Healthy Opportunities for Transition in Mississippi and Safe Kids Mississippi. More information regarding these programs can be found under the What We Do section of this site. Once the necessary funds have been obtained to match these programs and ensure that we can maintain our location in the community, the Board of Directors will determine how we spend the remaining funds. They will direct the organization to leverage dollars received from United Way agencies to increase the number of individuals receiving purchased services such as home and vehicle modifications or durable medical equipment and supplies; and set aside funds needed to hold our annual conference each spring, providing stipends to individuals with disabilities to ensure their participation.
If You Donate; We Can:
- Assist an individual to relocate from a nursing home back into their own home
- Assist a young person with special health care needs to attend our annual Spring Retreat
- Assist an individual to attend our annual conference
- Modify a home for a wheelchair user
- Purchase equipment designed to enhance independence in the community
- Continue our peer support and skills training seminars and more
